WHEN JESUS HIDES HIS SMILING FACE

Don Fortner

(Tune: When I Survey   #118  LM)

When Jesus hides His smiling face

And gives no tokens of His grace,

Empty, my soul can find no rest,

Till with His presence I am blest.

Downcast I am; but still I cling

To every word of Christ, my King.

The sinner who believes on Him,

He said, shall never be condemned!

I mourn my loss. I mourn my sin.

I long to see His smile again!

Yet, in the teeth of all my sin,

I cast my wretched soul on Him!

Where’er I turn, seeking relief,

I only aggravate my grief.

Lord Jesus, come, my soul embrace!

I have no other resting place.
