Good news from heav’n the gospel is

For guilty sinners in distress,

Proclaiming grace and mercy free

To wretched worms like you and me.

Our Surety, Christ lived and died,

Arose and intercedes on high.

With His elect He will not part.

He bears their names upon His heart.

For me He bore the wrath of God,

And paid my debt with His own blood.

In life the law He magnified;

In death all justice satisfied.

What glory now, what matchless grace

Beams forth from God my Father’s face!

He looks on Christ, and smiles on me!

In Christ, my God is pleased with me!

Washed in His sin-atoning blood,

Robed with the righteousness of God,

With Jesus Christ forever one,

God smiles upon this wretched worm!
