Eternal Day

Introduction:
Israel of old did not always walk in
the light. Her history was checkered
with alternating seasons of brightness and gleam, repentance and relapse. But God’s prophet spoke to Israel and
promised a day that would never end, a Sun that would never set. (v. 20).
Yet,
even in this gospel age The church of God has had a very
checkered history too. We have enjoyed
times of great, great light.
And
we had endured times of great darkness.
That which
is true of the church as a whole is true of all believers individually.
Proposition: But there is a day coming when our Sun shall set no
more.
1. There is a land where there is no violence, no
wasting, no destruction, but only peace, prosperity, and praise for God’s elect
– (v. 18). The walls of that city to
which we are going are Salvation. Her
gates are Praise!
2. There is a land of perpetual day and perpetual
brightness, where there is no need for the sun or the moon, for the Lord God
himself is the Light of that land and the glory of his people (v. 19; Rev. 21:22-24).
3. There is a land of righteousness, into which
no sin and no evil, nothing that defiles can enter. (v. 21; Rev. 21:27).
Now,
I want us to look at verse 20. Let’s
focus our attention just on the verse, and see what is here promised to God’s
elect in that land of The Eternal Day, which we generally refer to as
heaven, or the everlasting estate of God’s elect, when he has made all things
new.
I. First, Our Text
Promises Unceasing, Uninterrupted Light – “Thy sun shall no more go down, neither shall thy
moon withdraw itself.”
The
sun and the moon are emblems of light, clearness, and calm. In glory land there will be no interruptions
to our joy, peace, and communion with our God.
Imagine that – Uninterrupted Communion with Christ!
Why? Why
does heaven’s joy never falter? Why
does her light never dim?
A. All Creature Dependence Will
Be Ended.
The
saints in glory will be, indeed they are and we shall be, independent of all
created things.
1. No pastors will be needed to teach you.
2. No comforters will be needed to help you.
3. Nothing can enter in to hurt you.
Illus: Lazarus is sage, happy, and blessed in Abraham’s
bosom.
B. No Clouding Elements Can be
Found to Hide The Light In Glory Land.
C. There will be no darkness in glory because They Will Be No Darkness In Us!
D. Glory Land Will Be A Lord of
Perpetual, Unceasing Jubilee – Freedom with no danger of bondage again! – Worship without
interruption! – An Assembly that is never unassembled!
II. Second, Our text
Promises Everlasting Light.
The light of glory land shall be unceasing. But that unceasing light shall also be everlasting light. “The Lord shall be thine everlasting light.”
A. The Covenant by which Heaven was Secured for
us is An Everlasting Covenant.
B. Christ, the Surety of the Covenant, is An Everlasting Surety.
C. Try to get hold of this – We shall ourselves be immortal!
In
that immortal estate, where there shall be no more dying we shall have…
1. Clear Understanding of All Gospel Truth.
III. Third, our text our unceasing, everlasting
light will also be Unmingled Light! – “The days of thy mourning
shall be ended!” “God shall wipe away
all tears from their eyes!”
A. No Persecutions!
B. No Trials! (Sickness – Pain – Bereavement –
Sorrow!)
C. No Temptations!
D. No Inward Corruptions!
E. No Outward Sin!
F. No Chastisements!
G. No Sad Reflections!
H. No More Dying!
Application:
1. Inspiration to Believers!
