THE VERACITY OF GOD

"O Praise the LORD, all ye nations: praise him, all ye people. For his merciful kindness is great toward us: and the truth of the LORD endureth for ever. Praise ye the LORD."

                                                                                                            -- Psalm 117:1-2

How I wish I could persuade you (and fully persuade my own heart!) of the truth and veracity of the Lord our God. God is true in all things and deserves to be believed. He is worthy of our implicit faith and confidence.

Veracity Demonstrated

The Lord God has demonstrated the veracity of his word in many undeniable ways. It is written, "Thy Word is true from the beginning." No one can, with honesty, read the Bible and deny its truth. Every revealed purpose of God has come to pass exactly as it was revealed. Every promise God ever made, of either wrath or mercy, he has fulfilled. There is not a single prophecy in the Old Testament Scriptures, except those which relate to the second coming of Christ, which has not been accomplished with such precise accuracy that the prophecies themselves read like history books recording past events. God is true to his Word.

Veracity Experienced

Every believer constantly experiences the fact that God is true. Yes, God is true to his people. With us, God’s veracity is verified every day. "It is of the Lord's mercy that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. They are new every morning. Great is thy faithfulness". Have you not, in your own life's experience, proved the truth of the Lord? His love is unfailing! His faithfulness is unabated! His goodness is unchangeable! God is true! He promised to do us good, nothing but good, all the days of our lives. And his providence has fulfilled his promise. He promised to forgive the sins of all who trust his Son. And he has so fully forgiven us that he will not impute sin to us. He promised to keep and preserve us in life and grace in Christ. And we are kept by the power of God.

Veracity Proclaimed

The gospel we preach is the proclamation of God’s veracity. The gospel of God’s free and sovereign grace in Christ is true. Indeed, Christ is the Truth; and his Word is Truth. It is written, by the inspiration of God himself, "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” Yes, "the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin". The covenant of grace, ordered in all things and sure, is true (Jer.31:31-34). The accomplishment of redemption by Christ is true (Heb. 9:13). The promise of free pardon to all who believe is true. If you trust the Lord Jesus Christ, God has forgiven you of all your sins. And the blood of Christ perpetually cleanses you of sin! God's faithfulness to himself, his covenant, his Word, and his Son is the assurance of pardon for believing sinners. His faith- fulness to his own law and justice demand the pardon of those for whom Christ died, those who trust him.
