Jesus, Savior, We Adore You — Don Fortner
(Tune: #291 — Guide Me, O Thou Great Jehovah — 87.87.87)
1. Jesus, Savior, we adore You, Victor over death and hell! We in wonder bow before You, as our hearts with praises swell. Give us grace to trust and love You, ever bowing to Your will.
2. Here we raise our Ebenezer, trophies of Your grace divine, Our Salvation and our Treasure, every grace in You we find. Loved forever, loved forever, and redeemed by blood divine!
3. Savior, we have come together in Your ever-blessed name. Come, O Lord, in Your good pleasure; and our souls with love inflame! With Your presence, bless us, Savior, for the glory of Your name!
Imparted Righteousness
We sometimes use the term Òimparted righteousnessÓ to speak of GodÕs work of grace in the believer. Imparted righteousness is the righteous nature imparted to chosen, redeemed sinners in the new birth. The word ÒimpartedÓ simply means Ògiven,Ó or Òbestowed.Ó The language of Scripture, by which this work of grace is identified, is ÒChrist in you,Ó Òpartakers of the divine nature,Ó Òthe new man,Ó that which is Òborn of God,Ó Òhis seedÓ that Òcannot sin.Ó This new, righteous man, that cannot sin, is ever opposed to and at war with the old man. ÒThe flesh lusteth against the spirit, and the spirit against the fleshÉso that ye cannot do the things that ye would.Ó This work of grace in us has nothing to do with our being justified before God. But this work of GodÕs grace in us is just as necessary to our everlasting salvation as our being Òjustified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus.Ó — ÒYe must be born again!Ó
ÒChrist is AllÓ Colossians 3:11 Pastor Allan Jellet
Truly everything needed for the sinner to be accepted by God and qualified for heaven is in Christ and Him alone. There is nothing we can add to his finished work of redemption. In fact, anything that we might think we can add makes ChristÕs redeeming work of no effect for our salvation. This is exactly what Paul says in Galatians 5:2 ÒI Paul say unto you, that if ye be circumcised (or any other thing we might do to earn GodÕs favour), Christ shall profit you nothingÓ. So, if we carefully observe a legal Sabbath day (as many say that Sunday now is in New Testament days) and we imagine that our observance is making God think better of us or that He will reward us for it in heaven, hear what Paul says — ÒChrist shall profit you nothing.Ó Old Testament strict observance of a Sabbath day (Saturday) was to picture the complete cessation from our works when we look by faith to Christ who alone ÔworksÕ his peopleÕs salvation. Only in ChristÕs redeeming work is the justice of God satisfied and sinners accepted.
GodÕs Love for His Elect C. H. Spurgeon
Do not tell me that God the Father does not love you as well as he does Christ. The point can be settled by the grandest matter of fact that ever was. When there was a choice between Christ and his people which should die of the two, the Father freely delivered up his own Son that we might live through him. Oh, what a meeting there must have been of the seas of love that day, when GodÕs great love to us came rolling in like a glorious springtide, and his love to his Son came rolling in at the same time. If they had met and come into collision, we cannot imagine the result; but when they both took to rolling together in one mighty torrent, what a stream of love was there! The Lord Jesus sank that we might swim. He sank that we might rise and now we are borne onward forever by the mighty sweep of infinite love into an everlasting blessedness which tongues and lips can never fully set forth. Oh, be ravished with this! Be carried away with it; be in ecstasy at love so amazing, so divine: the Father loves you even as he loves his Son; after the same manner and sort he loveth all his redeemed.
Preaching Pastor Marvin Stalnaker
Every sermon sent by God almighty through his means of revelation to his people, the preaching of the gospel, finds Christ Jesus as its only subject. Only in rightly hearing of him does a redeemed and regenerated sinner find comfort for his soul. If the Scriptures are preached aright, according to the word of the Lord to two on the road to Emmaus (Luke 24), beginning at Moses and in all the prophets, the message will set forth his glory, his work, and his honor — in all the Scriptures the things concerning Himself will be the only declaration
Blessed Security Jude 1:24-25
GodÕs elect in this world have eternal life by the gift and power of his almighty grace. Having eternal life, Òthey shall never perish.Ó All who trust Christ know that all who are chosen, redeemed, and called by the grace of God are everlastingly saved. But our God is so kind and gracious that he gives us many assurances in his Word of our security in Christ. Here are three things which necessitate our eternal security.
ChristÕs Advocacy The Lord Jesus Christ is praying for us (1 John 2:1-2). Strive with all your being against sin. But when you do sin, do not despair. We do sin. Sin is what we are. Sin is mixed with all we do. Any man who says he is without sin, even for a moment, is a liar and calls God a liar (1 John 1:8, 10). But even in the teethe of our sins, GodÕs saints have reason to rejoice. — When we sin Òwe have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous: and he is the propitiation for our sins: and
not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world.Ó If Christ, who has made propitiation for our sins, prays for us, we are secure.
SinÕs Non-imputation God will never charge his own elect with sin (Romans 4:8). When David realized this, his heart leaped for joy. It did not make him licentious. It made him humble. When Christ was made sin for us, the holy Lord God charged our sins to his dear Son, punished our sins in his Son, and found propitiation for our sins in the death of his Son for the full satisfaction of his justice. AndÉ
ÒPayment God cannot twice demand, First at my bleeding SuretyÕs hand, And then again at mine!Ó
No matter what monstrous evil a child of God may imagine or do, God will not charge sin against his elect. He charged our sins to Christ. He will never charge them again to us. Justice satisfied forbids it. We are no longer subject to punishment. Self-righteous legalists see red when they hear or read such words as these. GodÕs saints see glory in them and rejoice.
Omnipotent Grace We are kept and preserved in Christ by the immaculate mercy and omnipotent grace of God unto eternal, heavenly glory (John 10:27-29). We are kept in his hands and by his hands. Our salvation does not depend upon our hold on God, but upon GodÕs hold on us. Who can harm us? We are in his hands! Neither Satan, nor man, nor sin, nor the world can rend our souls from the hands of him who made and rules the universe. His hands are loving hands, faithful hands, almighty hands, saving hands. Tempted, tried, afflicted child of God, be at peace. We are safe and secure in our SaviorÕs hands.
