Christ is Enough Don Fortner

(Tune: #118 — When I Survey — LM)

1.    Listen, my soul, it is the voice

Of Christ, my God, hear and rejoice!

He speaks, the sentence is divine, —

Fear not, believer, you are Mine.

2.    Chosen in love, redeemed with blood,

And, by the Spirit, called of God,

Believing Christ, I am His own;

And He will take me to His throne.

3.    Christ is enough! The Prince of Peace,

(With all the riches of His grace,

HeÕs Life, and Joy, and Righteousness,

Salvation full!) — Enough He is!

4.    Your work of grace within my soul,

By which YouÕve made this sinner whole,

Believing Christ, the Lamb once slain,

Assure me I am born again!

5.    Savior, IÕll triumph in Your love,

On earth and, soon, in heavÕn above:

In life and death IÕll sing of this —

Christ is enough; and I am His!

If You BelieveÉ

Pastor Donnie Bell

ÒHe that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him.Ó (John 3:36).

If you believe on Christ, you may be confident that your sins are forgiven by his blood and that God looks upon you as being perfectly righteous. He has promised to save all who trust his dear Son. Indeed, if you now trust the Son of God, it is because you are already born of God and have everlasting life.

A Blessed Benediction

Pastor Larry Criss

ÒThe grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. Amen.Ó (Romans 16:24)

Paul concludes all of his epistles with these words or much the same as them. He began this letter with similar words. And is this not the way of a believerÕs life? Is it not a story of grace from beginning to end? Indeed, there would never be a believer in this world except grace makes them so. God help me not to forget or take for granted that by the grace of God I am what I am. GraceI have noticed on cans or packages of food that a list is given of the ingredients of what it contains, or of what it does not contain. I honestly donÕt pay much attention to that, if I like it, I eat it. But concerning the true grace of God, I want free, reigning, abounding grace, and nothing else. Please do not tell me of a grace that is a mixture of manÕs merit or will, or requires some ingredient of my making. Tell me of the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, pure, undiluted, sovereign grace. Nothing less will be of any benefit to me.

The Source

Paul, as a faithful minister of God, points us to the fountain of grace, the Lord Jesus Christ. Christ is the channel through which the grace of God flows freely to thirsty sinners. He always has been. There has never been any other by whom grace comes. Not through a preacher, a priest, a pope, not through a Catholic church, or a Baptist church. The grace of God is by one man, the one Mediator, the man Christ Jesus. ÒFor the law was given by Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ.Ó And sinners, multitudes of sinners, have been receiving grace that saves to the uttermost from him since, no, before Adam fell, and he is still as full of grace as ever!

Amen

ÒAmen,Ó that is, verily, certain, faithful and true. And the Lord Jesus Christ is all that personified. ÒThese things saith the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the beginning of the creation of GodÓ (Revelation 3:14). All the promises of God are amen in him. My father would often say to me, ÒNow son, thatÕs final, IÕll not say it again.Ó And this is GodÕs word on the subject of the sinnerÕs only hope, ÒThis is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased; hear ye him.Ó ThatÕs final. Amen.

ÒMany long to sit on ChristÕs right hand in glory, but only a precious few are willing to take their place as learners at his feet.Ó                                                               — Pastor Frank Hall

The Doubts and Fears of the Saints

Pastor Paul Mahan

The saints of God have doubts and fears. They sometimes feel that they have no faith at all, and because of their sinfulness, they feel they may not be one of GodÕs elect after all. But ask them where all their hope and trust is found and they will quickly tell you Christ is their only hope. No true believer puts any hope of eternal life in his works, goodness, or faith, but all his hope is in Jesus Christ. And that is a good hope; a sure hope. And according to GodÕs promises, all who put their trust in Him are saved and shall be saved. There are no doubts in the mind of GodÕs people as to Who does the saving. They all know ÒSalvation is of the Lord.Ó And they all know how God saves: through the blood and righteousness of the Lord Jesus Christ. They all doubt themselves but never doubt GodÕs Word of Truth, the Gospel.

GodÕs Word to You

ÒCome now, and let us reason together, saith the LORD: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool. If ye be willing and obedient, ye shall eat the good of the land: But if ye refuse and rebel, ye shall be devoured with the sword: for the mouth of the LORD hath spoken it.Ó (Isaiah 1:18-20)

The Lord God here commands you to come to him by faith in Christ, and promises the full forgiveness of sin to all who obey his command.

GodÕs Command

The gospel is not a bare invitation, which may be accepted or refused, as you may choose, without impunity. It is a command, a summons from the throne of the Most High God. When God says, ÒCome,Ó he does not mean, ÒCome if you please.Ó He means ÒCome!Ó You cannot disobey an invitation. But a command is different. If you refuse to obey GodÕs command, if you refuse to come to Christ, you shall be judged of God as a disobedient rebel (Romans 10:21). This is a gracious command, a very gracious command. The gospel of God presents you with GodÕs commandment (1 John 3:23). — ÒCome!Ó And you are responsible to obey it.

To You

This command is addressed to you. It is addressed to sinners everywhere, without qualification. If you hear the command, God gave it to you. If you read the command, God gave it to you. I know many would-be theologians frown at it, many will cry, ÒThat is not consistent Calvinism. Bro. FortnerÕs theology needs to be more precise.Ó I care nothing for that. — God commands you to come to Christ.

No Qualifications

Many place qualifications in front of the word Òsinners,Ó implying that before you can come to Christ in faith you must meet certain conditions. They try to sneak works into the scheme of grace by making works sound like humility. They say, God commands Òsensible sinnersÓ to come, or Òseeking sinners,Ó or Òthirsty sinners,Ó or Òhungry sinners,Ó or Òweary sinners,Ó or Òlost sinners,Ó or Òconvicted sinners,Ó or Òpenitent sinners,Ó or Òbroken sinners.Ó But this is GodÕs word to you, sinner, without qualification or condition. In fact, in the context, those to whom God is speaking were sensible of nothing. They did not feel any need of a Savior. They had no sorrow, or remorse for sin. They were not broken at all. A more graphic description of utter godlessness, depravity, and spiritual death could never be found. Here is thick darkness, without one ray of light. Yet, to these hard-hearted, spiritually dead sinners, God says, ÒCome.Ó — They were senseless sinners who would not hear, ungrateful sinners who did not care, beastly sinners who would not think, utterly depraved sinners without one commendable trait, a people laden with iniquity, sinners who promoted sin in others, hardened sinners. They were the very worst of sinners, they were self-righteous sinners, whom the Lord God compares to Sodom and Gomorrah (vv. 2-14).

The gospel is addressed to sinners as sinners. The gospel net is cast into the sea of fallen humanity to catch all kinds of sinners. None are exempt from this command. None are excluded, not even you who shake in your boots fearing that you have committed Òthe unpardonable sin.Ó If God commands me to come to him, then I may come to him. And if I come to him in obedience to his own command, I will not be turned away (John 6:37).
