All Glory to the Great I AM Don Fortner

(Tune: The Doxology — LM)

1.    All glory to the great I AM

Who chose me in the blessed Lamb!

Eternal love and sovereign grace

Secured my everlasting peace.

2.    Praise Christ by whose atoning blood

I have been reconciled to God;

By His imputed righteousness

I am as holy as He is!

3.    Praise to the Spirit I will give

`Tis by His power that I live;

And to the end I shall endure,

For by His grace I'm kept secure!

About Casual Worship

Pastor Milton Howard

I believe that our thoughts of God are reflected in every part of our worship service. What part will the preaching of the Word of God have in the service? Will the truth of Christ and his saving work be the message? Are the hymns that we sing such that glorify God? Are the words true to Scripture? Are we faithful to join with God's people? Do we come on time? If late, do we come in quietly? Do we dress appropriately?

We do not set rules, and would never want to say anything that would keep anyone from coming to hear the Gospel. However, we live in a time when everyone wants to be casual, but there is nothing casual about the worship of God Almighty.

GodÕs Revelation of Himself

Exodus 3:14

Here we see GodÕs revelation of himself to Moses. Here the Lord God our Savior reveals himself in his great redemptive character. — ÒAnd God said unto Moses, I AM THAT I AM: and he said, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, I AM hath sent me unto you

      Those words by which God reveals himself here — ÒI Am that I am,Ó contain all three tenses of the verb of being, all three tenses of the words Òto be.Ó They might be translated, ÒI was, I am, and I shall always continue to be.Ó GodÕs name represents his character. When we call upon the name of the Lord, we worship him as he really is. When we pray in ChristÕs name, we pray upon the basis of all that he is and all that he has done. When we gather to worship in his name, we gather to worship trusting him in all his character as our God and Savior.

      When the Lord Jesus Christ, the Angel of the Lord, here declares ÒI AM THAT I AM,Ó he is revealing himself as God, the only eternal, self-existent, self-sufficient, unchanging, immutable, constant, faithful One. He is saying, ÒI am now what I have always been and what I shall forever be. — ÔI am the Lord, I change not.ÕÓ

      Remember, the One speaking to Moses is our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ the Lord, the unchangeable Jehovah, Òthe same yesterday, and today, and forever,Ó the only wise and eternal God (Hebrews 13:8; John 8:58; Revelation 1:8, 17-18). Our Lord Jesus Christ made this claim no less than fourteen times in JohnÕs gospel. Fourteen times he publicly took to himself this title which belongs to none but God — ÒI AMÓ (John 6:20; 8:24, 28, 58; 13:19; 14:6; 18:5). He said ÒI AMÉ

á      ÒThe Bread of LifeÓ (6:35).

á      ÒThe Light of the WorldÓ (8:12; 9:5).

á       ÒThe DoorÓ (10:7, 9).

á      ÒThe Good ShepherdÓ (10:11, 14).

á      ÒThe Resurrection and the LifeÓ (11:25).

á      ÒThe Way, the Truth, and the Life.Ó (14:6).

á      ÒThe VineÓ (15:1, 5).

á      ÒI am HeÓ (John 4:26).

      This name — ÒI AMÓ — is our SaviorÕs declaration that he is God come to save. He makes himself known to chosen sinners as that One of whom the Scriptures speak (John 4:22-26). I make no attempt to prove that he is. He cannot be known by human reason, or made known by the words of manÕs wisdom. Our business is simply to proclaim him as he has revealed himself in all his glorious character. The ÒI AMÓ of the burning bush is the God-man Mediator, our Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ, Òthe same, yesterday, and today, and forever.Ó From everlasting to everlasting he is God. We declare, with Paul, ÒBy the grace of God I am what I am.Ó But he simply declares, ÒI AM THAT I AM!Ó Well may he challenge all the earth, saying, ÒTo whom will ye liken me?Ó (Isaiah 46:3-5, 9-10; 45:5, 7, 11, 20-25; 40:25-31). — ÒAnd it shall be said in that day, Lo, this is our God; we have waited for him, and he will save us: this is the LORD; we have waited for him, we will be glad and rejoice in his salvationÓ (Isaiah 25:9).

Holy Spirit Conviction

ÒWhen the appointed time of love has come, when the Lord God will deliver chosen, redeemed sinners from the kingdom of this world and translate them into the kingdom of his dear Son, he begins his work of grace by making their lives bitter. By providence and by grace, he graciously, sweetly forces them and makes them willing in the day of his power to come to Christ, trusting him. Our God knows how to bring sinners down, that he may lift them up (Psalm 107:1-43; Lamentations 3:1-32).Ó

 ÒThe Government Shall be Upon His ShoulderÓ

Isaiah 9:6

Pastor Gene Harmon

All the Old Testament prophets wrote of GodÕs Messiah who was to come. All the writers of the New Testament wrote of the Christ of God who came in fulfilment of what was written of him by the prophets of old. From cover to cover, Jesus Christ is the theme of the whole Bible (Luke 24:27; John 5:39). And all of GodÕs preachers declare Jesus Christ to be the eternal Son of God, the second Person of the blessed Trinity, because thatÕs exactly what God tells us in his holy Word. Jesus Christ is Jehovah, the true and living God. Without controversy, that little baby that came forth from the virginÕs womb was God in human flesh (1 Timothy 3:16). ÒUnto us a child is bornÓ speaks of the humanity of Jesus Christ. ÒUnto us a son is givenÓ speaks of the deity of Jesus Christ. ÒThe government shall be upon his shoulderÓ speaks of the exaltation of Jesus Christ the God-man. ThereÕs a glorified man in heaven. His name is Jesus Christ the Lord. Every knee is to bow to the exalted Christ of God, acknowledging him as the sovereign Governor — not only of things in heaven, but the one who also governs this whole universe. If we refuse to bow down to him, confessing him as Lord of all, the Spirit of Jesus Christ is not in us (Philippians 2:8 - 11; Acts 10:36; 1 Corinthians 12:3).

Brethren, we can trust our eternal souls in the hands of the one who loved us, and gave himself for us.  All power in heaven and earth has been given to Jesus Christ the God-man. He controls every heart, giving eternal life to those his Father gave to him (John 17:1 - 3). And since the government is upon his shoulder, Jesus Christ governs all the issues of life, making sure that all things work together for our good (Romans 8:28). As our Blessed Surety, weÕre kept by his power through faith unto salvation ready to be revealed in the last time (Hebrews 7:22 - 25; 1 Peter 1:3 - 6). Whenever we experience something that disturbs us, we need to remind ourselves of this God-honoring truth: The government is upon the shoulder of Jesus Christ. He governs all things! If our heart is stayed on Jehovah, Jesus Christ our Lord, weÕll find perfect peace in every situation.
