Grace Baptist Church of Danville

May 27, 2012

When the Lord God declares that ransomed sinners are righteous and gives them eternal life in Christ, he does not pretend that they are righteous and save them at the sacrifice of his own righteousness, justice, and truth. He makes them righteous, truly righteous in Christ Jesus and justly rewards the righteousness he gives with eternal life.

My God is Faithful — Don Fortner

(Tune: #53 — How Sweet the Name of Jesus Sounds — CM)

  1.  My God is faithful in His ways to all His chosen ones.

Let ransomed sinners shout His praise, and lift our hearts in song.

  1.  Faithful to His decrees of love, His cov’nant and His Son;

Faithful to perfect that above which grace has here begun.

  1.  Faithful to ev’ry promise giv’n, though we unfaithful prove.

We’ll sing, when we arrive in heav’n, His faithfulness and love!

  1.  Faithful amid ten thousand woes, to comfort and defend;

Faithful to vanquish all our foes, and faithful to the end!

Our Message

Pastor Joe Terrell

And said unto them, Thus it is written, and thus it behoved Christ to suffer, and to rise from the dead the third day: And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.” (Luke 24:46-47)

This is a summary of the Old Testament. There is no real understanding of the Old Testament until it is understood as a revelation of the Lord Jesus Christ. The failure to see Christ (Messiah) in the Old Testament left the Jews in blindness, even to this day, and many Gentiles are likewise being blinded for they are similarly being led to believe the Old Testament is a book of laws to live by, a volume of the history of the Jews, and a library of secret prophesies concerning the Jewish nation.

But Christ fulfilled the Old Testament Scriptures for they were about Him and the work He would do while on earth. The New Testament is merely a record of Christ’s fulfillment of the Old Testament. Their messages are the same: Salvation through Jesus Christ proclaimed to all sorts of men and women from all over the world. That is God’s message and, therefore, it must be OUR message.

Christ in the Scriptures

Pastor Donnie Bell

To him give all the prophets witness, that through his name whosoever believeth in him shall receive remission of sins.” (Acts 10:43)

Before anyone can have Christ, they must first have the Scriptures. Without the Bible there can be no knowledge of Christ the Lord. It is only in God’s holy Word that Christ is fully revealed, “in the volume of the book it is written of Him”. All the teaching is concerning Him, in fact it is called “the doctrine of Christ” (2 John 9).

All the prophecies are fulfilled in Him, all the law is fulfilled by Him, all the ceremonies find their fulfillment in Him, and every sacrifice pointed to His one great sacrifice. The offices of Prophet, Priest, and King are combined in Him. It is no wonder then that the Scriptures declare that “Christ is all in all” (Colossians 3: 11). God Almighty is revealed in Christ Jesus the Lord, “For in him dwelleth all the fullness of the Godhead bodily (Colossians 2: 9). Our Lord said; “Neither knoweth any man the Father save the Son, and He to whomsoever the Son will reveal Him” (Matthew 11: 27). All the promises in Him are yea and amen”. His name is the first mentioned in the New Testament (Matthew 1:1) and the last (Revelation22: 21).

Men cannot trust an unknown or unrevealed Christ, and the only book in the world THE BIBLE, the Holy Scriptures can make Him known! But sadly all most preachers and people see from the Scriptures is “God has a wonderful plan for your life,” and if you will follow His plan for you, all will be well with you and yours.” All that God has for any sinner who is outside of hell is found in Christ His Son. “All spiritual blessings are given us in heavenly places in Christ” (Ephesians 1: 3). The average preacher and person is looking for everything in the Scriptures but Christ. They are looking for Laws to keep, works to be done, conditions to be fulfilled. But thank God, “Ye are COMPLETE in HIM, and, we are ACCEPTED in the Beloved”.

Exceeding Great and Precious Promises

2 Peter 1:4

Pastor Clay Curtis

The defects of a false promise are removed by certainty. Here is the certainty of God’s promises: they are of the grace of God; they are by God who cannot lie; they are of God who changes not; they are promises accomplished by God the Son, Christ Jesus; and they are promises effectually wrought in the heart of his elect by God the Holy Spirit. There would only be a defect in those promises if God entrusted you and me with any part to fulfill. But the triune God himself fulfills all his promises; therefore, the promises of God are not yes and no, only yes and amen. They are as exceedingly great and precious as God is exceedingly great and precious. With that in mind consider a few of the promises God has made to the believer.

  1. There is no more offering for sin (Hebrews 10:15-17).
  2. Christ has reconciled us to God by the body of his flesh through death (Colossians 1:21-22; Ephesians 2:19).
  3. In Christ we have the promise of eternal life (John 6:54).
  4. Because he has given us the Spirit of adoption, we are children and have the promise of inheritance, as heirs of promise. (Romans 8:17-18; 1 John 3:2).
  5. We have the promise of resurrection (1 Corinthians 15:52-57).
  6. Our Savior has given us the promise of reigning with Christ (Revelation 3:21)

As he anticipated his approaching departure from this world, Bro. Jack Shanks dictated the following lines to his wife, Shirley, and said, “I want this read at my funeral.”

“Lord, when I took my final breath

And saw You face to face in death,

Now shall my heart forever sing

Heavenly praises to my King!”

“Esteem them very highly.”

You have just read three articles by three faithful gospel preachers, pastors of local churches, proven to be “faithful ministers of the new covenant”. Each of these men are known to you and cherished friends of this congregation. We are privileged to have many, many others just like them. Few people in the world have the privilege of having so many faithful servants of God as near to them as we have. Very few have the privileges of knowing and regularly hearing so many gospel preachers. See that you “esteem them very highly in love for their work’s sake. And be at peace among yourselves.” Know them, cherish them, esteem them highly, pray for them, love them, and let them know that you do.
