Sodomy is distinctly set forth in Holy Scripture as a crime against God and a crime against humanity, signaling the just judgment of God upon an idolatrous, will-worship generation, by which he gives people over to a reprobate mind.

Our Sovereign God Maintains His Universal ThroneDon Fortner

(Tune: #39 — This is My Father’s World — SMD)

1.     Our sov’reign God maintains His universal throne;

In heav’n, and earth, and hell He reigns, and makes His wonders known!

His counsels and decrees, firmer than mountains stand;

He will perform whate’er He please; and none can stay his hand!

2.     All things His will controls; and His all-wise decree

Has fixed the destinies of all in matchless sov’reignty. —

Jacob by grace He saved, and gives no reason why;

But Esau’s heart He left depraved. — And who shall dare reply?

3.     What if the Potter takes part of a lump of clay,

And for Himself a vessel makes and casts the rest away?

Who shall resist His will, or say, “What doest Thou?”

Jehovah is the Sov’reign still; and all to Him must bow!

4.     My soul, bow and adore the Lord in all His ways;

His sov’reignty none can explore; but I will trust His grace!

For of Him and through Him and to Him are all things:

To Whom be glory evermore! Amen! Amen! Amen!

Our minds, our thoughts, our opinions about all things (spiritual, moral, political, philosophical, or scientific) must be molded and must bow to the Word of God. We must not allow the influence of a reprobate world to mold our thinking about anything.

Jesus Christ and Him Crucified

Pastor Gabe Stalnaker

“For I determined not to know anything among you, save Jesus Christ, and him crucified.” (1 Corinthians 2:2)

There is only one message to preach and to hear because there is only one message in all of the scripture — “Jesus Christ, and him crucified.” Every page, every story, every commandment, every word speaks of “Jesus Christ, and him crucified.” What is the only remedy for sin? — “Jesus Christ, and him crucified.” What is the only hope of standing before the throne of God justified and accepted? — “Jesus Christ, and him crucified.” What is the only message of comfort and rest? — “Jesus Christ, and him crucified.” What message breaks a hard heart? And what message binds the broken heart again? — “Jesus Christ, and him crucified.” What message instructs, and motivates the heart of a sinner to obedience? — “Jesus Christ, and him crucified.” What message produces true love, unity, and forgiveness among brethren? — “Jesus Christ, and him crucified.” Just preach “Jesus Christ, and him crucified” and husbands will love their wives “as Christ loved the church and gave himself for it” (Ephesians 5:25); wives will submit to the leadership and direction of their “loving” husbands; and children will “obey (their) parents in the Lord,” as Christ submitted and obeyed to the loving will of his Father. Everything that a child of God needs for growth in grace, and growth into the image of his Lord is produced through the preaching of “Jesus Christ, and him crucified.” Christ is ALL! — All we preach, all we hear, all we believe, all we have! By God’s grace, all of his people say with Paul: “We are determined to know nothing among us, save Jesus Christ, and him crucified.”

Forsaking All

Luke 14:25-33

I recall hearing someone, when I was a boy, say that faith should be spelled “Forsaking All I Take Him.” That is exactly what faith in Christ involves, giving up all to Christ and for Christ. Our Lord said, “Whosoever he be of you that forsaketh not all that he hath, he cannot be my disciple.”

That simply means this: Either we will be servants under the dominion of King Jesus, voluntarily giving up all to his claims, or we cannot be saved. We may not be required to give up anything literally. But surrender to Christ must be just as real in our hearts, as if we had actually given up everything, down to life itself.

Our Lord demands total, unreserved, unqualified surrender. The rich young ruler did not perish because he would not believe on Jesus to save him. He perished because he would not bow to Christ the Lord as sovereign over him (Luke 18:18-23).

What Are Its Implications?

Romans 1:18-32

In Genesis 19 God sent two angels in the bodies of men to Sodom to destroy the Sodomites and deliver Lot from the city (vv. 1-3). The men of Sodom, moved by perverted lusts, attempted to rape those two men who had come as God's messengers to the city (vv. 4-11). Lot appealed to those beasts not to do so wickedly. But they paid no attention to him.

Until this time, Lot had always managed to get along with the Sodomites by compromise. (Compromise is the only way a righteous man can get along with godless men.) So Lot, thinking that the prostitution of his daughters would be less vile than the homosexual rape of the men in his house, offered to give his virgin daughters to those beastly reprobates, to appease their lusts. They laughed in his face and started to break into his house.

Then the two men God had sent pulled Lot inside and struck the men of Sodom with blindness. The next morning those two angels snatched Lot and his family out of Sodom, and God poured out fire and brimstone from heaven to destroy it (vv. 15-25).

A Reprobate People

The Sodomites were a reprobate people, hardened by the practice of grievous, vile behavior. In Sodom homosexuality had become the normal, dominant way of life. Men with men and women with women, leaving the natural use of the body, commonly practiced things descent people blush to think about. Their sin brought upon them the wrath of God.

Sodomy is still an abomination to God. It is the perverse practice of reprobate rebels, with perverted hearts and minds, acting in a manner that is against nature. Wherever sodomy becomes commonly accepted reprobation is evident. Any society that permits, accepts, and condones the practice of sodomy is under the judgment of God. That is clearly the message of Romans 1:18-28.

Inevitable Conclusions

Romans 1:21-23 asserts that the root cause of sodomy is false religion, religion that robs God of his glory as God and makes man his own god (vv. 28-32), determining for himself good and evil. Anyone even slightly familiar with history knows that throughout history idolatry and sodomy go hand in hand. Whenever men are taught to worship themselves as God, sodomy always follows. Three inevitable conclusions must be drawn from these facts.

1.    Our society is under the judgment of God!

2.    The greatest evil ever perpetrated against humanity is freewill/works religion, giving to man and his freewill the rights and powers that belong to God alone, teaching men to worship themselves as God, attributing to man’s free will the power that belongs of God.

3.    There is an urgent necessity, in this dark, reprobate age, for the preaching of the gospel of Christ to all who will hear it.
