Would You Be Useful?

Would you really like to be useful in the kingdom of God, in the cause of Christ, and in serving the souls of men? Over the years I have seen a good many who like to skip here and there, from one thing to another, making a lot of noise and big splashes. They impress almost everyone for a while. Seldom do such people last anywhere or at anything very long. They are of no profit to anyone. Someone always has to clean up the messes they leave behind, mend the fences they tear down, and heal the wounds they make. If you and I really want to be useful, not just seen, let us heed Paul’s admonition - “Whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men.” As stewards of God, we must be found faithful, dependable men and women. Nothing else is required of us; but faithfulness is. Nothing else really amounts to anything lasting and beneficial. Faithfulness does. Some do not like having the responsibility of others depending on them. They do not like to be expected to do anything or be anywhere. They like to be free to do as they wish. To such children I say, Grow up! Dependability is essential to usefulness. Let me be like Caleb, who was a man “of another heart”, one who “followed the Lord fully”. Half-heartedness in anything is deplorable!
