DO YOU LOVE YOUR CHILDREN?
The question may seem redundant
to some. But I do not think it is. When I see children who are unruly,
disrespectful, and disobedient to their parents, I see children whose parents
do not really love them. A PARENT WHO TRULY LOVES HIS CHILD WILL SEE TO IT
THAT HIS CHILD BOTH HONORS AND OBEYS HIM. "He that spareth his rod
hateth his son: but he that loveth him chasteneth him betimes (or as often as
he needs it)" (Prov. 13:24).
"The rod and reproof give wisdom: but a child left to himself bringeth his
mother to shame...Correct thy son, and he will give thee rest; yea he shall
give delight unto thy soul" (Prov.29:15, 17). I know people say that it
cannot be done, but God commands it; and it can be done. Start early, be firm and loving, and you can gain both the honor and the
obedience of your children. If you truly love them, you will do it. Honor is
won by an honorable example. Obedience is won by the rod of correction. Both
are necessary. Do not be wise above God. He says, "Chasten thy son while
there is hope, and let not thy soul spare for his crying" (Prov. 19:18). Discipline alone is not enough.
Example alone is not enough. There must be both: firm, consistent and loving
discipline, enforced by a proper example.
