You Want A Stirring Example Of Commitment!
It is my privilege to maintain regular
correspondence with many of God's saints around the world. In a week's time I
receive and write a lot of letters. Often the letters I receive minister to me
in ways never intended by the ones who write them. Last week I received one of
those special letters. It was written by a young couple, striving earnestly to
honor God in their home and with their lives; but it was sent by the Spirit of
God to my heart. Here is an excerpt from it.
"We were looking at buying a house
when first got the job. We
thought with the extra money we would be able to afford it. After meeting with
the financial institutes, real estates and doing our budget, we saw that God
was closing the door in that regard. The bank said we could borrow enough to
buy a house, but the repayments they would demand would mean we couldn't give
to the Lord's work and we couldn't have people over for meals anymore. We
strongly feel this is wrong. Hospitality is a ministry God has given us to do,
and giving to the church (God's work) is to us only proper, seeing as God
provided us with the money in the first place. God has provided us with a house
we can rent. The extra money we earn can be used more in God's ministry. One
thing that stuck out to us through all this is the terrible sadness that so
many people, both professing Christians and others, are more willing to commit
their time, money and energies to a financial institution for 10, 15, 20, 25,
or 30 years than commit themselves to God and His will and service for that
time, if God gives it. What a wasted life it would be if we spent all our time
getting things of the world rather than things of God."
Before you lay this down and forget the
message it contains, read what our Lord says in Matthew 6:19-21, 31-34.
