"Redemption Through
His Blood"
Colossians 1:14
In the fulness of time God sent his dear
Son, the Lord Jesus Christ, into the world to suffer and die as the Substitute
for sinners, to make atonement for the sins of his elect and redeem them from
the curse of the law. (Isa. 53:8-10; II Cor. 5:21; Gal. 3:13;
Heb. 9:12; I Pet. 1:18-20; Rev. 5:9-10). It is vital that we understand
what the Bible teaches about the redemptive work of Christ. Only as we
understand "how" Christ died do we understand the doctrine of the
gospel (I Cor. 15:3). Is redemption the effectual, accomplished, finished work
of Christ; or does the redemptive work of Christ wait upon the will of man to
make it effectual? What does the Bible teach us about the death of Christ and redemption
through his blood? Christ died...
1. By the
will of God (Isa. 53:10; Acts
2. To
satisfy the justice of God (Rom.
3. In the
place of God's elect (John 10:ll, 15).
4. To redeem
and save his people (Matt.
5. To put
away the sins of his people (Heb. 1:3).
6. To
reconcile God's elect to him (Col. 1:20-22).
7. And by
his death accomplishd all that he came to
accomplish (John
The blood of Christ does not wait upon the
will of man to make it effectual. Redemption is done! "Tis done, the great
transaction's done, I am my Lord's and He is
mine!" To be redeemed by the blood of Christ is to be pardoned, justified,
accepted of God and an heir of heavenly glory. Where
in the Bible are those things said to be the results of man's free-will?
Nowhere! These are the works of God's free grace through the precious blood of
Christ.
Redeemed sinners in heaven, what say you
to the great and glorious work of redemption?"Thou art worthy, O Lamb of
God, for thou hast redeemed us to God by thy blood out of every kindred, and
tongue, and people, and nation!"Redeemed sinners on earth, echo the song of hea- ven - "Not unto us,O LORD,not
unto us,but unto thy name give glory, for thy mercy, and for thy truth's
sake."
Redemption through the precious blood of
Christ is redemption by the work of God's free grace. It is effectual. It is
finished. It is everlasting. Sinners redeemed by Christ's precious blood cannot
perish. Redeemed sinners shall praise God alone forever for "redemption
through his blood."
