gal 03v19 Wherefore Then Serveth The Law

"WHEREFORE THEN SERVETH THE LAW?"

Galatians 3:19

We know that no man is justified by the law, that no man is sanctified by the law, and that the law is not a rule of life by which the believer's life is to be motivated and governed. Knowing these things, the question which naturally arises in the minds of men is - What is the law's purpose? Why was the law given. The Word of God answers this question for us very plainly.

1.             The law was given to convince us of our sin, our guilt, and our just condemnation before God - (Rom. 3;19-20).

2.             The law was given to restrain the evil of man's heart, to keep men from committing the evil that they are naturally inclined to commit - (I Tim. 1:8-10).

3.             The law was given as "our schoolmaster to bring us unto Christ, that we might be justified by faith" (Gal. 3:24).

"But after that faith is come, we are no longer under a schoolmaster (the law). For we are all the children of God by faith in Christ" (Gal. 3:25-26).
