"Take heed lest by any means this liberty of yours become a
stumbling block to them that are weak." I Corinthians 8:9
I hope that we are all mature enough to recognize
the liberty that is ours in Christ. So long as he does not abuse them, the
child of God is free to use anything that God has created. But I trust that we
are also mature enough to use our liberty with discretion. Sometimes, when a
person first breaks away from the taboos of religious tradition, he is like a
child who smoked him first cigarette; he feels he must brag about it.
This ought not to be. When a child is old enough to
make decisions of his own, he is old enough NOT to flaunt his liberty. Let us
be wise. Do not abuse your privilege. Do not disdain those whose consciences
are yet bound. Remember, you were once in their place. Do not offend another by
your liberty. We are free. But we are bound to seek the glory of Christ in all
things.
