"The Heritage Of The Servants Of The Lord"

Isaiah 54:17

The heritage of God's saints is as broad as the universe. "All things are yours: whether...the world, or life, or death, or things present, or things to come; all are yours; and ye are Christ's; and Christ is God's."

All things are yours, the gift of God,

The purchase of your Savior's blood!

We will spend eternity discovering the fulness of our heritage as the "heirs of God and joint-heirs with Jesus Christ." But the prophet Isaiah here records three grand and glorious things that are the heritage of all saints by which the Lord God would comfort and sustain our hearts in the midst of earthly woes.

COMPLETE PROTECTION FROM ALL DANGER - "No weapon that is formed against thee shall prosper." From the beginning of time, God's saints have been the objects of hatred in this world. Men and devils have combined their efforts to destroy the people of God from off the face of the earth. But our God so thoroughly protects us from our enemies that all that men and devils do against us he turns to our spiritual and eternal good. "There shall no evil happen to the just!" Read Psalm 91 and Romans 8 again. Believe God and laugh at your foes.

COMPLETE VINDICATION FROM ALL ACCUSERS - "Every tongue that shall rise against thee in judgment thou shalt condemn." What efforts men make to destroy the character of God's saints. Ignore their slanders. Your God will vindicate you. Sometimes he does so in this world, as he did Mordecai, David, and John the Baptist (Psa. 57:6). But if he does not vindicate us here, he will vindicate us hereafter (I Cor. 4:3-5; Eph. 2:7; Rev. 18:20-19:6). Wise men prefer to wait for divine vindication rather than exercising self-vindication.

COMPLETE JUSTIFICATION FROM ALL SIN - "Their righteousness is of me, saith the Lord." All righteousness is God's work, not man's. And every believer is made righteous by God: in justification, by the imputed righteousness of Christ (Rom. 3:24-26); in regeneration, by the imparted righteousness of Christ (II Pet. 1:4); in life, by the righteous dominion of Christ over us in his reign of grace in our hearts (Rom. 6:11-18); and in glorification, by total conformity to the image of Christ in resurrection glory (I Cor. 15:51-57).
