Deuteronomy 29:29
Without question, the will of God is one and unalterable. It is his sovereign and absolute purpose. Yet, Holy Scripture speaks of the will of God as both “secret” and “revealed.” It was clearly God’s revealed will that Pharaoh should let the Israelites go out of Egypt, that Abraham should sacrifice his son, and that Peter should not deny the Lord Jesus Christ. Yet, as was proved by the event, it was his secret will that Pharaoh should not let Israel go (Exodus 4.21), that Abraham should not sacrifice Isaac (Genesis 22.12), and that Peter should deny his Lord (Matthew 26.34).
