2co 05v21 He Hath Made Him to Be sin For Us
"...He hath made Him to
be sin for us..."
II Corinthians 5:21
Rarely, if ever, do I preach
a sermon without quoting that statement. But, as I quoted it in a message last
week, I was suddenly struck by the fact that I have not yet entered into the
fulness of its meaning. God has laid on his Son the iniquity of us all. The
Lord Jesus Christ has voluntarily taken upon himself our sins. By some mighty
transfer of guilt, God has in holy justice made his Son to be sin for us! Our
sin was transferred to Christ, and made to be his; and his righteousness was
transferred to us, and made to be ours! This is matchless, adorable, infinite,
free, and sovereign grace! This is the gospel doctrine of substitution.
From the depths of my inmost soul, I pray that God will enable me to preach this message of substitution as it ought to be preached, at least one time before I die. What comfort, joy, and satisfaction would be ours, if only we could enter into the meaning of these words - "HE HATH MADE HIM TO BE SIN FOR US, WHO KNEW NO SIN; THAT WE MIGHT BE MADE THE RIGHTEOUSNESS OF GOD IN HIM." O Lord, teach us to know and love our Substitute!
